The Coffee Park

I wanted to make certain local mommas know about this place.

http://www.thecoffeepark.com/

It is a coffee shop with on site play area for kids. It is supervised play for kids to 5 years old. Not daycare. They don't change diapers and you cannot leave the shop. It is fairly inexpensive $5 for the 1st child and $1 for each additional child for up to 4 hours. The play area is supervised by college and high school kids who play with your kids and when needed use gentile discipline techniques (my youngest cannot stand letting other kids build towers without plowing them over into a million bits) or come get whatever parent is with the kid. They have huge glass walls so you can watch your little one from your table while you do whatever you want to do with your free hands.

It is a fantastic way to have it all. A little alone time a good cup of coffee and still be full time mommy.

Women's Personal Safety course, March 1st

Two Cobb County police officers (my husband and another officer, who have over 20 years of martial arts training between them) are going to be teaching a women's personal safety seminar on March 1st, from 9:30-5:30. The cost is $65 and includes a light breakfast and catered lunch.

This is a spin-off of a self-defense course that my husband has been teaching for the last 8 years (Fightback!) and includes everything from identifying and avoiding dangerous situations, learning to listen to that "gut feeling" that says something is wrong, laws regarding stalking and domestic violence in Georgia, statistics on crimes against women, identifying abusive behaviors (or behaviors that could escalate into abuse), and, of course, a broad range of techniques to disengage from and escape an attacker (whether it be a strange on the street or someone you've known for years).

Naturopath?

Can any of you recommend a naturopath? In Cobb County is best, but I'm willing to travel for a good one.

Thanks!

Selling a sewing machine?

Okay, I have two Kenmores. Neither is new, one probably 15ish years old, one 30ish. Both are in pretty good condition. I'd like to get a new one and have considered just selling off the older two, rather than keeping them lying around. Does anyone know sewing machine repair shops that maybe buy machines? I can't seem to find any. I suppose the other option would be a pawn shop (hell, suggest a good one) or craigslist, right? I suppose I could take pictures and list them and stop being lazy, but it seems like alot of machines are listed there and I'd have no idea how much to charge...

TIA

Pregnancy Masseuse?

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my back is in BAD shape. I have a masseuse I normally see, but she's unavailable due to a personal injury. I'm still seeing a chiropractor, but he's only half the puzzle that keeps me functional. The masseuse I normally see has pregnancy training and does deep tissue work. I tend to need someone who can really get in there! Her normal rate is $50/hour and I'd prefer not to pay too much over that.

TIA!

The Business of Being Born - Atlanta, Georga Screening

I just bought my ticket! I'm very excited. Prices are really reasonable $6 if you're pregnant, $15 if not. Besides hosting this screening, these women do alot of wonderful things, like Lactation Education, Pregnancy and Birth Classes, Doula work, etc.

I’m very excited to announce a special screening of Ricki Lake’s documentary, The Business of Being Born. This movie is only being released in selected cities, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it to Atlanta! Please visit www.babystepsonline.net for details about the movie and screening. Feel free to contact us with questions, or to buy tickets!

Swing set?

Okay, so Declan has literally asked for nothing for his birthday. We got him a few toys. Just today, he mentioned he missed having his own play set in the backyard. So, now I'm scrambling to find a good used one. He's not expecting it and I can't resist the urge to get him an awesome gift. The one we had was one of the amazing wooden ones, but I get that if we don't wanna pay $500, that's probably unlikely. We're looking for something study and for bigger kids. He's turning 7, but easily the size of an 8 year old. We want a slide and a couple of swings, anything else is a definite bonus! I think he'd like something to climb on, too, but I don't think he's picky about what. Anyone know of anything?

I've been a slacker!

This first trimester has been rough, at points and I've just not felt very social. Declan is in school, though and soon will be out for the summer, so that changes the routine quite a bit:) I know we have some homeschoolers, too, but it seems like there's always just more going on in the summer, anyway. So, I'm just checking in to see good days, times, idea for places, etc, etc.
